Full Job Description
Looking for a job where you can help animals and the humans that love them? Do you want to become an important, valued team member, and gain new knowledge and skills? Come join our veterinary hospital as a veterinary assistant!
We are a privately owned veterinary clinic that operates Monday through Friday. NAH provides preventative care and urgent care to dogs and cats though we occasionally see pocket pets. We do not provide care to exotic pets, wildlife, or farm animals. We do not see emergencies at night or on weekends (no on-call), though assistants share closing duties equally on rotation (on rare occasion this means completing an urgent care appointment after our 5pm close time).
This job is very rewarding but also quite busy – count on lots of exercise! You will be on your feet most of the day for this job. You must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Scrubs are required clothing and a spare set should be available in case of accidents.
Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Animal care experience and/or customer service experience desired. Licensed technicians are welcomed but not required.
Safely restrain cats and dogs for physical exams and procedures such as blood draw, IV catheter placement, imaging (x-ray and ultrasound), wound treatment, many other activities.
Run in-house laboratory work and prepare outgoing samples for reference laboratory evaluation. You will be handling veterinary biological samples including blood, urine, and feces.
Clean and sterilize surgical instruments.
Clean patient kennels and bedding.
Maintain safe and clean environment (sanitize counters and floors, wash patient dishes, remove garbage).
Use Avimark software to schedule appointments, manage patient data, and document financial transactions.
