Full Job Description
Kennel Technician- MCHS
Purpose Of Position: KT are responsible for direct animal care and assessment, social development of animals, and customer service.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent, previous experience with in-depth animal care preferred, customer service experience preferred, available to work weekends, holiday shifts, and overtime as needed.
Working Environment: Work is preformed in a kennel/shelter setting and outdoors in all weather conditions. Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking and standing 8-10 hours a day preforming job functions. Exposure to disinfectant solutions while performing daily cleaning. Subject to animal bites and scratches while handling animals of questionable temperament.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stay standing or active during entire shift, lift/carry items/animals of moderate weight, able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, push, and other strenuous activities.
Schedule: MCHS is open to the public up to 360 days a year with staff at the facility 365 days a year. Up to 40 hours a week with occasional overtime as needed and possible early/late shifts.
Responsibilities:
Animal Care: *On-Site Training Provided If Needed* Provide adequate food/water to animals daily, administer medications, draw blood for testing, administer vaccines, restrain animals for treatment/intake, bath/groom when needed, monitor animals and report changes in health accordingly. Practice humane and overly compassionate treatment of animals.
People Care: Work positively with other staff, shelter manager, volunteers, Board Members, and the public. Assist potential adopters with client/animal interactions, meet and greets with current animals, and adoption process. Provide quality customer service during times of stress and public assistance including but not limited to on-site interactions, phone calls, social media, events off-site, etc. When working with MCHS it is important to remain professional at all times, the face and public assumptions of MCHS are the interactions with employees.

All public entering facility are required to wear masks/face guards, most public interactions held ‘curbside’ if possible, operating by appointment only.
