Some requirements for this position would be the ability to:

Follow directions with and without supervision; to prioritize task and work independently; to lift and maneuver objects and pets of at least 40lbs; to be able control large, anxious, or aggressive pets; ability to recognize certain behaviors in animals; to speak up when uncomfortable with a situation; ability to prepare or handle a variety of medicines that are used in the clinic or on the farm for animal use and with the knowledge that I have no known allergies and will let management know immediately upon hire if I have any allergies that may inhibit me in making or handling medications; to adapt to the needs and work style of other technicians and doctors; to work with computers, office equipment, lab equipment; and perform basic mathematics.

Animal care and treatment responsibilities of Technicians: Blood draws; placing IV catheters in multiple sites; vaccine preparation; TPRs; radiograph prep and performance; troubleshooting and correcting poor films; subcutaneous, intravenous and intramuscular injections; outside lab test prep to include: blood, fecal, fungal, u/a, cytology, culture and histopathology preparation; reading in-house labs to include: fecal cytology, cytology, sediments, blood smears; in-house lab tests (HW, lyme, ehrlichia, parvo, FELV/FIV, etc) reading CBCs and performing differentials and cell analysis; toe-nail trims; ear cleaning; anal gland expression; knowledge and use of all lab equipment; Performing ECG, Suture removals, applying minor bandages; troubleshoot and maintain anesthesia machines; critical care monitoring; maintaining emergency kit; bladder expression for u/a; anesthesia induction(with Dr. direction) intubation and extubation; minor bathing; mathematics(including % solutions, mEq in solution, manual drip rates); sterilization of surgical equipment; maintenance of autoclave; patient monitoring- post-surgical and in-house;
Assist Dr. during surgical procedures (including prep set-up, scrubbing and gowning in); Cleaning, polishing and charting teeth during dental prophy; ALWAYS enter controlled substances in log book; watch inventory and inform inventory manager of low quantities; knowledge of fluids and rates; knowledge of drugs and their usage; maintaining the highest standard of patient care; assisting the Doctors and other technicians in any way asked to do so.

The salary for this position will be determined by the applicant’s experience and education. This will be discussed during the interview. New employees will go through a 90-day training before full-time benefits are initiated. Note that our matching 401(k) will take effect after 2 years of hired date.
Education: Must be a Certified Veterinary Technician from an Accredited School or in the process of becoming certified within 3 months time of hire.
