Adoption Counselors are the friendly faces to help make happily-ever-after for our shelter pets!

General Duties & Expectations:

  • Assist potential adopters with good decisions regarding animal welfare and safety, helps determine “best fit” for the animal and adopter.
  • Share knowledge of basic animal-related behaviours and common communicable diseases with potential adopters.
  • Maintain a professional, friendly and empathetic manner with potential adopters, KCHA visitors, and volunteers at all times.
  • Ensure animals are in the correct location with corresponding cage cards.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of animal cages/kennels at all times, to include clean-up of urine and feces as needed throughout shift.
  • Safe leashing and transferring animals during cleaning duties.
  • Follow quarantine protocols in designated areas and during transfer or movement of animals.
  • Document animal observations on daily care form as needed.
  • Process and handle all adoption-related monies accurately as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records of adoption paperwork, including follow-up documentation and correspondence as assigned.
  • Use computer software to document animals housed at KCHA as assigned.
  • Answers telephone, route calls, take messages, and provide general information as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, professional office environment.
  • Available and willing to work beyond the end of scheduled shift or on unscheduled days as required for efficient organizational operation and growth.
  • Within the scope of his/her qualifications and experience, performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows standards of conduct and procedures developed by Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $10.00 per hour
