GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Greet and assist all visitors, staff and volunteers in a professional, warm and positive manner.

Answer phones and e-mail with helpful, clear and efficient information.

Facilitate customer interactions with animals while providing positive, objective, useful information in a conversation based approach that encourages dialogue.

Provide post adoption support to adopters as needed.

Prepare adoption contracts as needed.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure all the animals in the lobby have been properly cleaned and fed each morning

Clean and Sanitize the lobby and intake office each morning and evening

Process all incoming adoption applications which may be received in person at the shelter, via email, or via Pet Supplies Plus

Assist the public with their adoption needs and form adoption contacts when animals are to be adopted

Ensure that all adopted animals have an updated medical history in ShelterLuv upon their adoption

Keep the adoption applications organized, and ensure that adopted animals have the appropriate signs on their kennel

Check the adoption email account throughout the day

Answer phones

Take complaints from the public as needed and deliver them to the Humane Officers

Work closely with foster coordinator to keep updated on what animals in foster care have applications

Work with Vet Technician to get adopted animals spayed or neutered as needed

Take lost reports from the public

Collect fees donations from the public

Sell county tags and merchandise as need by the public.

KEY COMPETENCIES

Previous animal experience is preferred. The Adoption Counselor must display superior customer service skills and be professional at all times. The Adoption Counselor must be confident in handling animals. The Adoption Counselor must have a passion for animals and believe in the mission of the Humane Society.

Previous animal experience preferred, confident in handling all animals, must be able to lift 50 pounds and be able to restrain large animals (100+ pounds.) Must believe in the mission of the Humane Society of Parkersburg. In addition to these qualifications, you must be organized, proactive in your daily duties, be a positive team player and willing to learn. Must be able to work Monday – Friday, 8am-5:30pm and rotating Saturday and Sunday shifts. Starting pay is $9 per hour. Health benefits offered after introductory period.
