JOB DESCRIPTION
DOG TRAINER – ASSISTANT

Brief Description

A Howling Good Time Dog Training LLC was founded with one mission: to provide high quality training that yields reliable results. We pride ourselves on our dedication to know and understand each dog’s individual needs and behavior. We are an all-breeds company serving clients in the greater Madison area, and growing! The Assistant Dog Trainer is responsible for the supervision, scheduling, training, and implementing all appropriate training methods intended to identify, reward, correct and prevent problem behavior of our dogs.

Tasks

  • Assist in developing suitable training plans for dogs to address and resolve problem areas, including aggression, biting, and hyperactivity.
  • Teach dogs to obey basic commands using various training techniques that are best suited to each dog’s personality and attributes.
  • Provide progress updates to clients, and teach clients appropriate training methods to enforce and maintain behaviors and skills learned by their dogs during training sessions
  • Provide exercise for clients’ dogs (in timely increments)
  • Pick up and dispose of dog droppings during walks and make sure dogs basic needs are met throughout each shift
  • Ensure that the training area is clean and tidy (sterilize, maintain kennels, and other center equipment)
  • Notify supervisor when needed to pursue veterinary attention for any dog that becomes sick or injured under the training center’s supervision
  • Provide first aid to pets in an emergency

Qualifications and requirements

  • A love for dogs
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Pass criminal background check
  • Prior experience working with a variety of dog breeds or pet handling experience – preferred.
  • Familiarity with common behaviors of different kinds of dog breeds
  • Must have reliable vehicle or transportation
  • Must be coachable and able to accept direction
  • Must be able to handle larger dogs if needed and keep control of a leash

Pay: $11.00 – $15.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
